Narrative of a journey to the Zoolu country, in South Africa. By Captain Allen F. Gardiner, R.N., undertaken in 1835.
Allen F. Gardiner
Book Number: 52965
ISBN:
Publisher: Printed London: Bradbury and Evans, Printers, Whitefriars. Published by W. Crofts 1836
8vo. 412pp. original tooled leather boards, with gilt decoration to front and rear board and gilt title and decorations to spine. Top of spine is worn, spine and spine fold, and edges of the front and rear boards are rubbed to reveal orginal colour leather. Marbled end pages. Some of the plates have been torn and repaired with no loss. The end pages are aged, but un-foxed and not toned. The copy has toning and foxing throughout. The tissues have been removed from all the illustrations. The lithograph illustrations were all printed by C Hullmandel, and some are Onstone by T M Boyne, others are hand coloured, these appear to have been printed seperately and then added to blank pages in the book, so some of the lithographs have deteriorated around the edges, but the blank page they were put on is not. There is no title page. Fold-out Map at rear is torn in half, with loss and a piece missing from the bottom of the half that is there. Altogether this book is an interesting relic, it is in very solid condition, the pages are not brittle, but are toned throughout.

Book Number: 61735
ISBN: 9781920137311
Publisher:
8vo. Softcover. 173pp. Very good. With writing adapted from and inspired by the Accidental Academic--a provocative thought-leader blog that challenged the assumptions of contemporary South Africa--this book tackles race and religion, provides an alternative take on the enigma of Julius Malema, tosses fresh insight into the Israel-Palestine conflict, and vents the frustrations and fears of the next generation. It is a collection of critical, irreverent and insightful writings from a man who belongs to "the next generation" - the generation of South Africans who have lived their lives largely outside of apartheid in a democratic country. It expresses the frustrations and concerns of this generation. But it also offers up an incredible amount of hope and positivity - it's like a breath of very welcome and long overdue fresh air.
